*A note on telecom power systems
Telecom power systems secure telecommunication services in case of power interruptions or fluctuations. The essential parts of the system are rectifiers, batteries, and a power system controller. The rectifier converts alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) and provides the power necessary to charge the batteries. The power system controller monitors and controls the entire system and site power infrastructure, maximizes battery life, supports energy saving and informs the operator of maintenance needs.

Brand Establishment and Global Strategy

Mr. Joe Li, Delta Electronics Renewable Energy & UPS Senior Sales Manager indicated that the UPS Division is an independent business division of Delta Electronics. More than ten years ago, it started as an OEM/ODM maker of UPS products, and then developed solar inverter system products. In 2007, Delta established a branded product line of UPSs and began to market Delta brand UPS products. Since 2010, it has further expanded to Mission Critical Infrastructure Solutions (MCIS). The business model as a solution provider was then established.  Manager Li said that promoting its own brand UPS and positioning itself as a solution provider are parts of the integrated brand strategy of Delta Electronics Group.

After starting from Taiwan, the UPS brand has extended to the BRIC countries, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. In Taiwan where Delta Headquarters is located, after-sales service and technical support are more competitive compared to others in the industry. Large-volume products are sold via direct sales. As for small capacity UPS products, fewer requirements for after-sales service and technical support, allow sales through normal marketing channels.

Sales channels are diversified in India and China. For three-phase power, direct sales are carried out through main distribution points in the main provinces and cities of India and China since more after-sales service and technical support are required.  For the single-phase small type products, channel sales is utilized.

As for the two big areas of pan-Russia and the South American countries neighboring Brazil, Delta is looking for partners to conduct sales, marketing and more. Mr. Li stressed that for large tenders beyond local partner capabilities where substantial technical support is required, Delta will send a technical team to ensure customers receive the best products and services. For Europe, Africa and Middle East regions, the business model utilized is similar to the above.   Delta has stepped into the Southeast Asia market and will expand to Northeast Asia.

■ Delta UPS - Amplon RT is intelligent and highly efficient,
   supplying safe and reliable power.

Manager Li pointed out that the logistics costs such as freight and duties have increased due to the weight of UPS, and Delta will consider localized production to solve the problem. Besides addressing logistical costs, this would also allow Delta to quickly expand the market and construct an integrated supply chain with logistics services for large capacity UPSs.

Comprehensive Integration

Mr. Li said that Delta Electronics has a long history with a complete supply chain throughout the world. Delta’s main marketing channel structure for UPS products is growing rapidly and it has a five-year technology and business plan for quickly catching up with the large global manufacturers. Mr. Li further pointed out that Delta is a company focusing on technology research and development with critical core technology. Delta’s different business departments work together through regular reporting and technical seminars, which allows horizontal integration for technical issues. For Delta’s vertical supply chain, such as spare parts, different units may use the same parts, which makes product design and production faster and more stable. The close cooperation of a worldwide sales and service network supports the overall integration of Delta’s global marketing.

■ Delta UPS – Ultran Ultran DPS Series,
   Innovative and energy saving.

Enhancement of Brand Value

Mr. Li said that UPS products are marketed from two perspectives. One perspective is price advantage. Some UPS manufacturers sell only UPS hardware and do not provide total solutions, such as for industrial markets. Manufacturers want an advantage in price, so the prices of their products will be low. The other perspective is to provide total solutions that approach the minimum capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operating expenses (OPEX), so customers receive the most benefit. For high-capacity three-phase UPS products, Customers’ focus is on reliability and efficiency, including inverting efficiency, problem-solving efficiency and customer service efficiency. Customers wish to reduce maintenance downtime. With less product differentiation, the effective solution becomes performance programs that increase customer confidence. For single-phase products, there is even less product differentiation, and cooperation with local manufacturers is needed to meet the market demand for a ready supply of single-phase UPS products. There are three ways to cooperate with local firms: 1) local sales partners maintain appropriate inventory levels and a ready supply for customers, 2) a local Just In Time (JIT) Hub and close cooperation with Delta Electronics to achieve a target of minimum inventory levels and ready supply, and 3) manufacturing or assembly by local manufacturers to achieve optimal cost control, strengthen the company’s operating profit, and realize the advantages of a ready supply.

Mr. Li said that the range of applications for UPSs is very wide, and includes medicine, manufacturing, IT and the field applications. Any one type of UPS product can not satisfy all applications. Current industries like cloud computing are causing a product to shift to pan-IT industries, such as Data Center solutions. Some products are shifting towards industrial applications, such as energy solutions and others. Delta’s UPS product strategy is to enhance added value and sales value, so customers receive more benefits from using Delta UPS. Delta must also maintain the brand ideal to create value for the brand.

Competitive Advantage

Mr. Li pointed out that the design philosophy for UPS products is the same as for all of Delta’s other products. It is based on a minimum number of components, small size and weight, coupled with modular design for more convenient use. Another feature is less power consumption, which not only saves energy, but also emits less heat and lowers the cost of cooling. Mr. Li emphasized that compared to global enterprises with long histories, Taiwan’s enterprises are very competitive. A core advantage of Taiwan's enterprises lies in innovation, efficiency and flexibility. Taiwan's engineers are very flexible, and they can propose multiple solutions to increase quality. As long as enterprises make full use of talent, they can keep pace with enterprises that have a 100-year history.

Mr. Li notes that Delta’s UPS products have two main advantages. The first is high reliability even when hot-swapped, good quality, and good service. The other advantage is efficiency, not only power efficiency, but also for more efficient service that increases customer benefits and reduces waiting time. The reasons for such high requirements include customer competitiveness and value, as well as Delta’s mission and commitment.

Mr. Li also said that the total Delta’s UPS total solution has been available for more than a year. In 2010, a large data center project in Russia used Delta UPS products. Delta Electronics was the only supplier to provide delivery and installation on time for the project. The Russian party was very satisfied. Delta’s UPS products feature low power loss and high efficiency. A solar power inverter using the same key technology was evaluated as providing the highest system efficiency by European and Japanese manufacturers.

Delta’s Mission

Asked if it is worthwhile to pay the cost for increasing UPS efficiency by 1% Mr. Li said that from a macro point of view it is worthwhile. When Delta increases efficiency by 1% the total power savings around the world can be a huge amount. Delta Group's mission is “To provide innovative, clean and energy-efficient solutions for a better tomorrow”.

Delta delivers 150,000 high-efficiency rectifiers for the telecom industry worldwide
28.06.2011 - Delta delivers hybrid solution for Togocell
Telecom operators continuously expand their networks from urban to remote areas, where the mains grid is either unreliable or unavailable altogether. Deployment of base stations in such areas has traditionally relied on the use of diesel generator sets (gensets), which is expensive. Rising fuel costs, fuel thefts and the regular maintenance required by gensets in remote areas increase base station OPEX. Local competition has forced telecom operators to look for solutions that will reduce their OPEX.

Telecom operators are facing the following challenges:

  • Fossil-fuel dependency (global rise in oil prices and limited availability in the future)
  • Transport to remote sites (long distances and expensive transports)
  • Storage of fuel at sites (safety risks: explosion, vandalism, etc.)
  • Telecom sites need to be managed and controlled by on-site personnel (high costs)
  • High maintenance costs (oil, filters, etc.)
  • Limited useful time of diesel engines (needs to be replaced every two years)
  • Pollution (noise, heat and dirt)
  • Optimization of genset operation

Togocell’s biggest challenge was the viability of remotely located base stations in a telecom network. Is it worth keeping an existing base station running if it generates more costs than revenues? In a standard off-grid site configuration, the genset is running 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Genset OPEX includes fuel thefts, long and difficult journeys to sites for refuel and maintenance, as well as maintenance supplies (filters, oil, etc.).
Based on the customer’s requirements, Delta proposed a solution based on the use of solar power, batteries and Delta’s hybrid power system. The objective was to optimize site operation by using renewable energy, and to limit genset operation to a maximum of 12 hours per day. A total of 25 existing sites were upgraded with following equipment provided by Delta:

  • 21 x 230 Wp multi crystalline solar panels D6P230A3A (DelSolar, Taiwan)
  • 1 x hybrid power system including 48 V / 9.6 kW rectifier system, solar chargers (MPPT), DG starter battery charger, AC and DC distribution (Delta, Europe)
  • 1 x 48 V battery string 1,000 Ah (Narrada, China)
  • 1 x 5 m x 7 m PV array support structure (Müpro, Switzerland)
  • 1 x junction box and PV cabling

Delta’s hybrid system consists of a 4.83 kWp PV array, battery backup for 12 hours at 80 percent depth of discharge for 1.7 kW DC average load, which represents 50 percent of the solar energy fraction and 50 percent of the genset energy fraction. The site includes a solar panel providing enough power to run the site and to recharge batteries. At night, the site is powered by the batteries. If the batteries reach a specified low charge level, the genset starts to power the site and to recharge the batteries. Delta’s hybrid solution provides a stable, modular and secure power supply that is affordable to purchase and maintain. The solution is designed for remotely located, off-grid base stations, and includes remote management capability tailored to the customer requirements. Delta commissioned the site and prepared it for optimization. Delta’s solution helped the customer cut base station OPEX by 60 percent. As a result, the customer decided to order additional equipment for 16 sites (with 9.66 kWp of solar power).

Delta’s hybrid solution:
Hybrid system with 4.83 kWp PV array, battery backup for 12 hours at 80 percent depth of discharge for 1.7 kW DC average load.

Solar energy fraction: 45%
Genset energy fraction: 55%
Expected ROI: 5 years

28.04.2011 - New OutD V Series!
Delta has launched its new OutD V (“value”) Series, which has been developed using a design-to-cost concept. The cabinets come in three different dimensions (height of 700, 1200 and 1800 mm) and feature single or double steel sheet walls. Delta offers standard OutD cabinets in four different dimensions (height of 1200, 1500, 1800 and 2000 mm). The standard cabinets have single or double aluminum sheet walls.

Outdoor solutions
Delta’s outdoor power systems are especially designed for demanding outdoor environments. The stable construction is based on a single- or double-wall metal design, which provides robustness for outdoor applications, as well as important protection against the effects of extreme climate conditions (e.g. rain, sun exposure, dust, extreme temperatures, humidity, snow and wind). Our total outdoor systems with integrated power and telecom equipment are very compact solutions, and their modular design allows flexible adaptation to different customer requirements and environments.

System design
Delta’s outdoor power systems are designed to supply DC or AC power for different applications, such as cellular base stations. The robust cabinet equipped with a three-point locking system reduces the risk of unauthorized access, burglary or vandalism. It also protects the telecom and power equipment, as well as the batteries, against extreme weather conditions, thereby ensuring a long service life. Standard cabinets have IP54 (and optionally IP55) protection rating in industrial environments. The cabinet can be equipped with additional supporters for hardware, enabling a higher level of integration for space-critical applications. In addition, the battery (or user) compartment can be separated from the rest of the equipment.

Climate management
An integrated climate management system controls the temperature inside the cabinet, providing optimal operating conditions for equipment and battery. Different cooling/heating units (air conditioners, heat exchangers, fans and air filters, heaters) are available. The advanced climate controller can be used to provide optimal conditions for all equipment by eliminating problems caused by extreme temperatures, dirt and humidity, which are normally present in outdoor environments.

We at Delta understand the need to reduce to the amount of energy consumed by cooling systems. Therefore, we offer a new hybrid cooling solution in the most popular combination: air ventilation and active cooling (AV + AC). This concept uses air ventilation as the main cooling system in low and normal ambient temperatures. In high ambient temperatures, air ventilation is replaced or suppressed by active cooling (AC). This creates significant energy savings. For example, in a typical system with internal heat generation of 1.5 kW installed in a 1.8 meter outdoor cabinet in Frankfurt, Germany, a hybrid (AV + AC) cooling system reduced energy consumption by 70–80 percent when compared to a traditional system using active cooling only. The savings could be even higher in installations where higher internal temperatures (above 30 °C) are accepted.
Delta OutD product series

Power systems
The power system located inside an outdoor cabinet consists of power conversion modules (rectifiers, invertors and UPS units) and distribution units (with configurable AC and DC elements). Delta’s OutD cabinets can be equipped with different types of rack-mounted indoor systems from the CellD Series. Delta’s new EnergE high-efficiency rectifiers are the best choice for such applications.

29.04.2011 - APS Inverter Power Systems Now Available
Delta has launched three new modular inverter system platforms in the power ranges of 4.5 kVA, 7.5 kVA and 30 kVA. The systems can be integrated into indoor or outdoor site cabinets.

The modular systems can be built as standalone inverter systems or combined with Delta’s static switch. Variable input and output connections are available. In addition to providing inverter systems “as is”, Delta can integrate an inverter into any standard 19-inch housing. For example, inverter integration is a standard option in Delta’s DC power system DPS 2900B-48-12 TFF.

CellD APS 1500A-230 systems are compact solutions designed for 19-inch rack assembly. They can be integrated into both indoor and outdoor solutions. The case provides an optional sliding mechanism to improve cabling access during installation. The CellD platform includes three different power configurations: three inverters and a static switch (6U high), four inverters (6U high), and two inverters (4.5U high).

MidD APS 1500A-230 is built inside an 11U high sheet metal case, which can be mounted on the wall or on top of a plinth. The case dimensions are 600 mm (W) x 489 mm (H) x 480 mm (D). The system can provide up to 7.5 kVA with a combination of a static switch and six inverters (n + 1). Optionally the system can be built with eight inverters for standalone maximum power of 12 kVA.

CabD APS 1500A-230 is provided in Delta’s indoor ETS cabinet (2000 mm x 600 mm x 600 mm). The cabinet is floor-mounted with optional adjustable feet for installation on an uneven surface. With a static switch, the load is rated at 27 kVA and the system can be delivered with space for 20 inverters for n + 2 redundancy. As a standalone installation, the maximum power is 30 kVA. Also the CabD platform offers variable output options, including RCDs and an IEC socket.

The systems are based on Delta’s API 1500A-230 inverter and static switches. The inverter delivers energy savings through high efficiency and very low output voltage distortion. The static switch offered for CellD and MidD inverter systems is Delta’s SSW 7500A-230, and the static switch offered for CabD inverter systems is Delta’s SSW 30000A-230. 01.11.2010 - New Products – RenE renewable hybrid telecom systems have arrived
Delta is launching four new RenE renewable hybrid systems later this year. Two of the systems are designed for indoor use (InD) and two for outdoor use (OutD).

Delta’s renewable solutions represent a greener tomorrow. In addition, they enable reliable telecom services in areas where mains power is not available at all, or its quality is unreliable. With rising energy prices, the use of diesel generators in remote areas will become more expensive. This means that in addition to its environmental aspects, the use of solar energy will become an increasingly cost-effective solution as the technology develops further.

Delta’s RenE renewable hybrid solutions are offered either as a stand-alone solar power system or as a combination of several energy sources. Any combination of solar panels, diesel generators, mains power and wind turbines is possible – depending on the customer’s needs, the location of the telecom site, and the infrastructure in the region. Delta’s RenE solutions are delivered as a total solution, including the telecom power system with several cabinet options, power conversion and control modules, solar chargers and inverters, solar panels and supporting frames, a wind turbine and a charger, a junction box and batteries.

The new systems are based on Delta’s DPR 2900 EnergE rectifiers and PSC 3 controllers. These products enable additional energy savings – the energy efficiency of the rectifiers is over 96% and the PSC 3 controller enables significant direct and indirect energy savings. Both InD and OutD solutions are available with 8.7 kW and 17.4 kW power output.

The advantages of a stand-alone RenE system are demonstrated by a customer site in Africa. With 1 kW DC load, the RenE system provides annual cost savings of more than EUR 9,000 per site – diesel consumption was reduced from more than 6,500 liters per year to zero. With these direct cost savings, the payback period for the RenE system is about 3 years. If we include the indirect savings resulting from less need for maintenance and refueling trips, the savings become even more significant. Furthermore, the new EnergE rectifiers and the PSC 3 controller enable additional, increasingly faster savings. The operation of the system itself results in zero CO2 emissions, compared to the previous rate of 17600 kg per year. The cost savings over a period of, for example, 9 years, total more than EUR 70,000 – for a single 1 kW site!

The potential CO2 and cost savings vary by each customer, depending on factors such as the location and climate of the site, existing power solutions, and the optimal combination of Delta’s energy-efficient products. We can guarantee nearly 100% savings in CO2 emissions to customers who adopt the entire palette of our green SolutionE products: the EnergE rectifiers, a RenE system, the PSC 3 controller, hybrid cooling and the Site Management and Control System (SMCS).

For more information, see the following pages:
  • SolutionE: RenE, rectifiers, controllers
  • DPR 2000, DPR 2900 and DPR 4000 EnergE rectifiers

28.09.2010 - Significant diesel savings with SMCS for Vodafone in India
Vodafone Essar is a Mumbai-based mobile phone operator. It is the second largest mobile phone operator in India in terms of revenue and the third largest in terms of customers, serving more than 100 million people in India.

In 2009, Vodafone was expanding in Orissa and Bihar, primarily in suburban and rural areas. At these sites, Vodafone used diesel generators for power backup. Frequent and long power cuts and overall low efficiency led to high operating costs, which were delaying plans for site infrastructure expansion.

Vodafone wanted a smart solution to reduce the diesel consumption of the gensets running at their telecom base stations. The solution would have to deal with poor power availability while providing reliable, regular fuel monitoring.

Delta took the challenge and delivered an enhanced power system control solution, a site monitoring control system (SMCS) that helped in reducing diesel consumption significantly, in addition to lowering operating costs and carbon emissions. Delta also provided Vodafone with real-time remote site monitoring and control features such as critical alarm generation.
26.09.2010 - Delta OutD thermo electric cooling – hot news in energy conservation
Climate management at a telecom site requires almost as much energy as the active equipment – up to 50% of all energy consumption. Delta’s advanced solutions for optimized climate management bring savings of up to 80% or more, depending on the climate conditions and the acceptable temperature of the cabinet.

These results are achieved using hybrid cooling, which refers to the optimized use of different cooling methods. Traditional methods of climate control include air ventilation using fans and filters (AV), active cooling (AC) and heat exchangers (HEX). However, a combination of air ventilation and active cooling (AV + AC) and a combination of heat exchangers and air ventilation (HEX + AV) revolutionize energy efficiency – as well as the cost structure of climate control.

One of the new options Delta offers is the thermoelectric cooling of battery cabinets. The elegance of this solution lies in the fact that batteries cannot tolerate as high temperatures as telecom equipment or power supply modules. In fact, a temperature increase of ten degrees centigrade halves the lifetime of batteries. So, we thought, why not save energy by separating the battery cabinet and cooling that part a bit more? A thermoelectric cooling unit is an optimal solution for cooling a battery compartment, as it is easy to install and use, in addition to being small, more silent and maintenance free compare to standard AC units

All this means that the intelligent cooling solution lowers not only CO2 emissions and operating costs, but also capital expenditure, due to optimized investments in cooling capacity.

“With the update we can now better showcase our acclaimed product lineup. We have created an easy-to-use service where customers can quickly locate all the information they need,” said Corporate Senior Vice President and General Manager of Energy Solutions Business Group Albert Chang, managing both telecom power and UPS. “The basis for the new Web service has been our customers’ feedback. For easy access to company information we have linked the product site to Delta Group’s internet pages.”

“In addition to comprehensive product information, the site now has dedicated sections for sustainable development and total energy efficiency. This is important to us as Delta puts a lot of efforts on environmental issues. In our telecom power system designs, for example, we pay attention not only to efficiency of modules but to system-level energy efficiency, material consumption, transportation, the need for maintenance visits, fuel consumption and cooling solutions”, said Kirsi Juntunen, Marketing Manager.

“We hope that our customers will find the new site very useful, but we’ll also be happy to receive any feedback on the service for further development.”
30.10.2009 - Delta Launches over 96 % Energy-efficient Rectifier
Delta recently announced the launch of its next-generation DPR 2700C-48 rectifier series with over 96 % efficiency rate. The rectifier series also offer a power density of 34 W / inch3 – the highest on the market, in line with Delta’s reputation as a leading company in dense packaging of the latest technologies.

The second new launch, the new DPR 4000B rectifier series, also reach an efficiency rate of 95%, the highest on the market for its power range. Leading-edge energy-efficiency together with the highest power density and intelligent controllers shows Delta’s commitment to sustainable development.

Cost savings with an easy replacement

“The new rectifiers offer energy savings for all power needs. When replacing older rectifiers, they save thousands of kWh annually. The environmental effects are significant and the cost savings can amount to thousands of US-dollars, especially in remote sites where power is generated by diesel generators,” said Hans-Peter Glauser, Global Product Manager at Delta Energy Solutions Business Group. “The extended operating temperature range enables further energy savings by reducing the need for cooling.”

For Delta’s customers, it’s easy to switch over to the more energy-efficient modules. Even upgrades of existing installations are straightforward plug-and-play. The new DPR 2700C can replace old versions of the same to increase efficiency, and the DRP 4000B replaces the DRP3500B series as a retrofit.

Availability

Both products, the new DPR 2700C and the DPR 4000B rectifier series will be available from the end of October 2009.

27.10.2009 - Delta’s EnergE label helps you spot high energy efficiency
Delta is introducing the new EnergE concept. The EnergE label helps you distinguish Delta’s most energy-efficient rectifiers.

“Many of our rectifier series have EnergE-labeled products, but Delta has set strict criteria for these individual products. They all have the world’s leading energy efficiency in their specific power range, and, moreover, always an efficiency of 95% or higher. We want to make sure that EnergE is a real promise of efficiency,” said Hans-Peter Glauser, Global Product Manager at Delta Energy Solutions Business Group.

The energy efficiency of modules refers to how efficiently a module converts primary into secondary energy without losses. Power density specifies how much power is packed into a single unit of volume. It is essential in electronic devices as it defines the product’s current flow in relation to size.

Currently DPR 4000B and DPR 2700C rectifiers have the EnergE label.

20.10.2009 - Delta at Green Telecom India 2009
The international conference Green Telecom India 2009 was arranged in Delhi on 11 September 2009. The event was organized by Bharat Exhibitions. The focus of the event was on energy efficiency and eco-friendly telecom network infrastructure – particularly on cost reduction, power savings and cooling solutions.

Delta India took part in the event, and Matti Heikkilä, Product Manager at Delta Energy Solutions gave a presentation on the subject of telecom industry and sustainability.

The ICT sector currently generates approximately 2% of global carbon emissions, more than two thirds of which are generated by network infrastructure. In addition to concerns about the environment, conference discussions focused on increasing energy costs and the growing need to find energy-efficient solutions within the industry.

Increasing base station efficiency is crucial for energy efficiency. Nevertheless, alternative energy sources such as solar energy, wind power and organic fuels are also important in going green. Certain forms of renewable energy have the additional advantage of enabling reliable telecom services in rural areas.

The title of Matti Heikkilä’s presentation was “Key Drivers for the Telecom Industry to Implement Green Strategies”. In his presentation, Mr. Heikkilä explained the Delta philosophy of total energy efficiency. Instead of just working on the energy efficiency of individual modules, Delta is striving to achieve lower energy consumption at the system level as well as over the equipment lifecycle.

Delta recently launched its new EnergE line of energy-efficient rectifiers. In addition, the company offers advanced controller options for reduced energy consumption. Delta’s product line also includes new renewable hybrid system solutions, which in principle enable CO2 emissions to be eliminated altogether.

All this adds up to significantly lower total cost of ownership.

Green Telecom India 2009 drew together more than 300 telecom, power and energy executives to exchange views on the emerging trends, technologies and services in the field of green telecom.

“The event was an excellent forum for sharing thoughts with key players“, said Dalip Sharma, Managing Director at Delta Energy Systems India. “The day proved how large a role environmental consciousness now plays in our field. At Delta we are extremely proud of our green solutions. But we also look at the whole picture from the viewpoint of sustainable development. This approach covers rectifier efficiency and power density, intelligent control and monitoring solutions, energy-efficient cooling solutions – and our whole corporate culture. We know that we are the leading green solutions company in our field, and we are proud of that. And I’m glad to say that we have managed to reach this leading position without losing an inch in product usability and reliability.”
18.09.2009 - Cost-cutting needs in sight?
Delta has announced the completely redesigned, next-generation NH Plus series uninterruptible power supply (UPS). The new series has been designed with efficiency in mind, resulting in significant electricity savings for its users. The unique modular structure provides easy inventory management and minimized mean time to repair (MTTR). The NH Plus series offers a remarkably low total cost of ownership in terms of both capital and operational expenditure.

Cost cuts with efficiency and modularity

The NH Plus series maintains an efficiency of 94% even under common loading conditions - something with which most products currently on the market cannot compete. Depending on local energy costs, the NH Plus series can save customers approximately USD 2,500 annually in electricity bills.

A further cost-reducing feature of the NH Plus series is its hot-swappable modular structure. Each power module delivers a power density of 20 kVA in a 3U chassis. The total power options include 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 and 120 kVA in two cabinet types. This unique modular structure allows IT managers to protect their data centre facilities from power fluctuations in a flexible and scalable way. Other advantages include lower initial acquisition costs as well as minimized MTTR and system downtime.

In addition, the NH Plus series offers a maximum input current total harmonic distortion (ITHD) of less than 3%, meeting the highest standards in the industry even without adding extra filters. The low ITHD ratio reduces not only capital investment needs, but also the cost of installing cabling and upstream circuitry.

"Delta has designed the NH Plus series UPS to assist customers in reducing waste and conserving energy, as well as in reducing the cost of running their business," says Dr. Charles Tsai, UPS Business Unit General Manager, Delta Electronics.

The new NH Plus series is available in Q3-2009. For more information, contact a Delta representative.
08.09.2009 - PSC 3 telecom power system controller news
Easy data transfer and software update

The brains of a telecom power system, the PSC 3 controller is making customers' life easier still with new features. Version 2.40 makes sharing information between the controller and a laptop possible without a TFTP application. Now you need nothing but a web browser, which makes both data transfer and software updates fast and simple. PSC 3 Version 2.40 has been in production since Q2/2009.

More advanced cooling - PSC 3 expansion with fan driver module

Cooling is an energy-intensive part of the operation of a telecom base station. Improved cooling efficiency is therefore significant for lowering costs and reducing the environmental footprint. The PSC 3 controller is now expandable with a fan interface module that controls the fan speed.

"This is the smart feature that's been missing. It doesn't make sense to use full fan capacity unless it's really necessary. This expansion module adjusts the speed based on the temperature, and thus lengthens the lifetime and change cycle of fans. Of course, the module also lowers energy consumption significantly, and reduces fan noise," says Matti Heikkilä, Product Manager, Controllers, Delta Energy Solutions Business Group.

PSC 3 with a fan supervision module is available in Q3/2009 for all Delta OutD systems.
